Cracked Core is the Defect's starter relic, auto-channeling 1 Lightning orb at combat start. The fight begins with an orb already deployed, generating passive damage immediately. It is the starting point of every orb build.
Lightning orbs passively deal 3 damage to a random enemy each turn and 8 on Evoke. Even one orb helps trash fights run faster. As Focus rises, the opening Lightning scales too, making it pair well with Data Disk.
After beating the Act 1 boss, Infused Core (channel 3 Lightning on start) becomes available. Going from 1 to 3 opening orbs is a huge spike, and the upgrade is recommended in most cases. You might skip it only when another boss relic is exceptionally strong; otherwise upgrade by default.
